This New USB Kill 2.0 Thumb Drive Can Kill Your Laptop or PC in a Second

USB Kill 2.0 is a USB thumb drive  sold by a Hong Kong company that can fry any computer that it is plugged into by introducing a power surge through the USB port.

A device called USB Killer was developed by a Russian hacker Dark Purple and made quite a news online last year. USB Killer is capable of  destroying any computer the hacker wanted.

And now, a Hong Kong company which uses the same name, USB Killer, has launched a very similar product which they call USB Kill 2.0, it is selling online for $49.95.

The Hong Kong company claims they have developed the product for the sole purpose of allowing the companies to test if their devices are susceptible to USB power surge attacks.

The company also sells a protection shield along with the device for another $13.95. This piece of hardware allows users to test their devices without actually destroying them.

By removing this protection shield you convert the device into a destruction device, which will then have the ability to fry the devices that it is  plugged into. On their website, the company says that it “strongly condems [sic] malicious use of its products.”

The company launched the USB Kill 2.0 on August 16, just as expected the  store is already out of stock.

According to their own set of tests, the company claims that about 95 percent of all the devices available on the market today are vulnerable to power surges that are introduced via the USB port.

The only devices that are not vulnerable to this USB kill attacks are recent the Macbook models, which optically isolate the data lines on the USB ports.
